My first 5K

This past Sunday, Joe and I and a couple of friends ran in the Shoreline Classic 5K.  It was the first time I had EVER ran.  We started a training program that they put together back in June to start getting ready for this race.  It was every Thursday and we started out running a mile then it increased slowly every week.  They also told us what to do the rest of the week.  Joe and I started off really good and following the program and then it got SO hot.  So I slacked off cause I couldn't run in the heat or take the baby out in it either.  I also had some problems with runners knee and shin splints.  That also took away some motivation, but I would still go most Thursdays.  So race day came and it was in the 60's and of course right before the race started it started to rain!  Sheree's mom watched Luke while we ran.  They had to sit in the car because of the rain, so he didn't get to see me cross the finish line (bummer).  I was so proud of myself when I finished, even if it took me 48 minutes.  Maybe I will keep doing 5K's....

woohoo!  I got a medal and everything!

Wow....he's a big boy!

That's what the doctor said when he walked in.  Luke measured 21 lbs, 27 3/4 inches.  The doctor said if he was average height and still weighed what he did he would raise an eyebrow but he's not fat....he's just big!  He said he looks great!  Phew, I'm so excited that he thinks so and I'm not over feeding him.  He did so good with his shots today, he barley cried!  He was such a brave boy.  Unfortunately he is getting my cold.  Darnet, I tried so hard not to get him sick....poor guy.  I feel bad.  The doctor said we could start solids.  So we tried cereal today.  He wasn't too into it at first, but he started to want it more.  This is a short blog, but he's cranky and mommy has a headache so I'm going to try and suck out his boogies and get us both to bed!

not sure about this mom

Of all the things to lose....

Of course, Southwest would lose the car seat.  We waited and waited and waited for it to come out and it never did.  Almost a perfect trip.  Joe went to sort things out at the baggage office, apparently it never made if off our plane we traveled on to Chicago.  We had a pretty tight connection there.  They told us they would Fed Ex it to us and it would be there by Tuesday, and last night Southwest called and said they found it and gave us a tracking number.  Ok, so not a huge deal, till I saw the "rental" car seat they gave us.  Car seats expire every 7 years I think.  I think this one was past due for about 14 years.

Luke's head almost went over the top, and I didn't feel comfortable driving 3 hours with him in it.  So I knew where a Babies R Us was, about 15 miles from the airport, and told Joe we were going to get a convertible car seat (since he is going to outgrow his "baby" car seat soon).  So we found one we liked and got it.  In the parking lot we bust open the box and are installing this car seat (we got some REAL weird looks).  So we put Luke in it and get on our merry little way.  Luke did so good for his second round of flying and for 12 plus hours of traveling until we got about 20 minutes from home.  He had an EPIC meltdown.  It got so bad I crawled in the backseat while Gracie crawled in the front seat and got him out of his car seat to hold him and calm him down.  That even took a while.  Poor guy was tired of being in his car seat and I couldn't say that I blamed him.  We went and picked Oreo up (who was insanely excited to see us) and went home.  He slept until 5, ate, and slept until 8:30.  He was a tired boy, as were mama and daddy.  I thought my cold was trying to come back, but I think I was just exhausted because I feel better today.
Luke and his new ride

We didn't do a whole lot today.  Watched the Colts and Steelers get beat....bad.  But I will point out the Steelers got beat worse!  Luke and daddy were all decked out in there Steelers apparel and mommy was a bum in her sweats.  Joe went to pick up the big dogs from the kennel and they were excited to see him to say the least.  They even got free baths because they were there so long.  They said they didn't even have to muzzle Jazmine up.  Are you sure you gave us the right dog?  I think she just must be very protective of her territory.  Oh well, that's good I guess.  Keeps me from being scared in the house.

Daddy put together Luke's 4-wheeler just like Logan's that he had so much fun on, but I wouldn't let him play in it because it was time for bed.....such a mean mommy LOL

Jazmine loving her freedom
Tomorrow Luke goes to the doctor to get his 4 month shots :-(  I hate when they give shots!  I'm excited to see what the doctor is going to say about him this time.  And we get to start solid foods!  Joe is scared because of what Brenda said happened to their daughter when she started solids.  She went from sleeping all night to waking up every hour.  I'm still excited to be feeding him something other than formula.  He still wants to eat every 3 hours and usually takes down 6-8 oz, so I'm hoping feeding him food will keep his belly full longer.  It is past my bedtime, yes its only 9:52, but that's late for me.  I think tomorrow if I get time I am just going to do a picture blog of some of the pictures we took on our trip and then I will post a link to my snapfish if you want to see the rest! Night!

Arizona wrap up

So were on the plane going back home so I thougt what a better time to blog than now.  We had an awesome time Arizona.  Luke loved his first trip out to the southwest.  Mommy got to take lots of naps, because of course I got a cold.  I'm going to miss those naps.  Luke woke up at 5:30 everyday because that's 7:30 our time which is when he normally wakes up.  So grandpa would take him, since he's an early bird anyway, and they would do the morning chores together while mommy and daddy got some sleep.  Oh how mommy and daddy are going to miss that!

Aunt gracie and me also went on a shopping experience and went in one of the biggest babies r us' I have ever seen. I wish we had one back home like that. We got the little guy lots of new toys which grandma is going to have to ship back. He even got his own smart phone just like mommies.

Luke got to meet his great grand bop. He took very well to him and loved his bolo tie! Great grand bop also gave him some lime sorbet which he loved. I took it away from him and he reached for it like I have never seen him reach for anything before.

He also got to meet his uncle Rick who flew in from Houston to see him. He got him some really cool steelers outfits! Which is a good thing because he might as well burn the colts ones he has! He had one of the outfits on yesterday that was 18 months and he fit into it just fine. Can't wait to see what the doctor has to say about that.

We also got to meet lots of new babies. Luke met Stellla, Logan, and Aurora. Dom and Krystal had a BBQ on labor day so we got to get all the babies together. It was so much fun!!! I wish I had a group of friends with babies like that at home. It's so funny because Luke fit in size wise with all the other babies. The only difference was he couldn't quite sit up on his own yet. We got some adorable pictures though. I wish we didn't live so far away and could visit more.

Grandma and grandpa are coming to visit us in just about a month. We plan on going to the covered bridge festival over in Indiana. Who knows what other fun things we will get into.
Luke and Uncle Oger

I think this blog is long enough for now. We still have about an hour till we land. This flight from Tucson to chicago is a long one. Then we fly to St. Louis then drive home, so we still have a lot ahead of us!

PS:  It is a royal pain in the @ss to try and add pictures after you have already written the blog.....GRRRRR

Runaway train

Riding the old cars
Riding the train
Sunday we went to old Tucson, in 106 degree heat. A little warmer than we are used to. We saw a shoot out gun show, rode the train, rode the old cars with the little guy and aunt Gracie took him on the merry go round since mommy and daddy don't do circles. While on the train, it appeared we had too much weight because we couldn't make it up a certain hill, so we went backwards all the way back down the hill to try again.....again we fail to make it up the hill. So again, we go backwards all the way down the hill. This time the engineer must have really stepped on it because pretty soon we were hauling up this hill and thinking we were going to derail because we were going so fast! It was quite the adventure. Luke tolerated the heat very well. We were going to get an old western picture taken but it was so hot and we didn't feel like waiting, so maybe next time when we come out (which will hopefully be for mineral and gem show in February). Maybe then we won't have sweat pouring down our backs and can stay longer than a couple hours.

We're leaving on a jet plane....

Early in the morning tomorrow, we will be leaving to visit grandma and grandpa out in Arizona.  I am a little nervous since this is a big trip with a little guy, but I'm sure it will all go ok and he will be a perfect angel........

Luke relaxing while I pack all his stuff
I've been busy this past week, between my new hobby of jewelry making, which doesn't get done as much as I would like, and packing for our trip.  Packing for myself was always a chore, but packing for a baby...that's a whole different story.  Making sure you have everything you could possibly need to avoid the meltdown.  Hopefully I have it all.  I'm also worried about the airport people destroying our stroller cause lets face it, they are not the most gentle people.  Since we will be going to Old Tucson, something I've been wanting to do for a long time, we are taking the jogging stroller.  If anyone is thinking of getting one of these, I HIGHLY recommend them.  It is amazing!!  I'm also excited because Az mom and me will be going bead shopping.  I don't think Joe will be very excited about that...but he said he was glad I had a hobby, so I will tell him not to complain.  There is no real hobby that is cheap.

I'm also super excited for a cookout at Dom and Krystal's house!  We get to meet Logan, and Stella, and Aurora.  Luke hasn't been around any other babies, so it will be good socialization.  The first thing I am going to do when I get to Tucson is have Nicco's for dinner.  Yummy!  Also, we need to get some new U of A attire for Luke that fits!  Since he can pretty much wear size 12 month clothes.  He goes to the doctor two days after we get back and he said we can talk about starting solids then.  Thank God.  I'm anxious to see what he weights, since I think he's the size of most one year old.

Luke is really inquisitive these days.  He grabs at everything!  He also likes to pinch!  Ouch, sometimes he gets me and I holler which scares him and makes me cry, but it hurts!   I have bruises from him pinching me, and also kicking when he sits on lap.  He's a strong little guy.  He's also a wiggle worm, my goodness he just tries to get off my lap all the time now.  He's definitely growing up fast, too fast.  Pretty soon he won't want to cuddle with mama anymore.  He would rather run around and be a boy, so I am enjoying my little cuddle big while it lasts.  Although I tell him often I will cuddle with him whenever I want, no matter how old he is. The picture shows how he has discovered his lower lip, he sucks on it all the time!

Joe needs to finish packing, procrastinator, but not as bad as Gracie.  I'm sure she hasn't even started yet. LOL  So I'm going to go cuddle with my little guy!
